What is DomainChecker? [Top]
DomainChecker is a domain name checker which uses WHOIS queries to
find taken, free and expired domain names on many different generic
top-level and country-code top-level domain. Look on the main page for the entire
list of features found in DomainChecker.
Does this
program contain ANY malware? [Top]
DomainChecker is, and always will be 100% free of all kinds of
harmful code such as spyware, adware and viruses. If you don't like
the program you can always uninstall it without risking any kind of
harm to your system.
System requirements [Top]
Windows 95/98/2000/2003 Server/ME/XP/Vista
128 MB of RAM (256 recommended)
Internet connection
How do I start it? [Top]
After you have installed it, open your start-menu and click on
'Programs', under that tab you will see a group called 'DomainChecker'.
How do I use
it? [Top]
Right after you have started the program the Quick Start Wizard will
automatically open. Follow the steps in the Quick Start Wizard as
instructed by it. After a while the program will have checked all of
the domains that you have added to the list. When this happens you
can right-click on the list to delete domains of your chocie using
the different options available there. You can also add more domains
and check them. When you are ready to save the results click on the
"Export" button to save the results to a file of your choice (XML,
CSV, HTML and TXT files are supported).
Why should I purchase the full version? [Top]
The free Shareware version has some limitations compared to the
registered full version. All these limits will be removed when you
purchase the full version. For a list of the limitations please see
the buy now page.
Config
[Top]
There are many useful configurations in DomainChecker to give
you as much control as possible. I will try and explain each one of
them as clearly as possible in here.
TLD servers
These are the top level domains (TLD's) that the program can check
for you. You can add new ones by using the 'Add' button. 'Server(s)'
is the whois server(s) associated with a TLD. Each server must be a
standard WHOIS server which operate on port 43 in order for the
program to be able to use it. 'Free response' is the string that the
program will look for in the response from the whois server, if the
string is found then the domain will be considered to be available.
If not, it will be marked as taken. (If this field is emtpy then the
program will instead try to find one of the global free responses as
defined in the list under the tab 'Response handling'.) $domain$
represents the current domain that the program is checking. For
example, if the program is checking hello.com for availability and
the whois server replies: 'hello.com is AVAILABLE' then the 'Free
response' string you should add for the TLD 'COM' would be '$domain$
is AVAILABLE'
Response handling
• Global free respones
If any of the following strings are found in the response from the
whois server, then the domain will be considered to be free.
$domain$ represents the current domain. The 'Global Free Response'
list will only be applied if there is no individual 'Free response'
set for a domain.
• Unsuccessful lookup responses
If any of the following strings are found in the response from the
whois server, then the lookup will be considered unsuccessful. If
retries is enabled the next server (if there is one) in order will
be used.
Settings
Here are some additional settings which didn't fit into any
other place in the program.
Main window
[Top]
This is the main window of the program which is showed when the
program has started and the Quick Start Wizard is closed.
Connection threads
This is the number of simultaneous connections that will be used for
checking the list of domains. A value from 1 up to 500 can be set
here. 500 should only be set for very powerful connections. Normally
having a value of 50 here when using a standard broadband connection
is just fine.
Retry failed attempts
This defines how many times a failed attempt will be retried
before the connection thread will move on to the next domain in the
list. Use a higher value the slower your connection is. No specific
value can be said to be the "best", if you get a lot of timeouts and
errors then try increasing this value.
Connection timeout
If a connection has remained inactive for this number of second
then the program will move on to the next domain and mark this
current one as "Timeout". Use a higher value for a slower
connection.
Mark domains that will expire in X days or less in blue
Does exactly what it says, if you set this value to for example,
"20" and the program finds a domain that will expire in 17 days,
then that domain will be marked with a clear blue color in the list
so you can easily see it.
Check selected domains only
You can mark multiple domains in the list by holding down CTRL
or SHIFT. If this option is enabled then only the domains you have
selected will be processed when you start the program.
WHOIS window
[Top]
The WHOIS window lets you do a manual lookup on a domain of your
choice and see the raw output from the WHOIS server. This can be
useful if there is something specific you need to see in the output
if you are adding a new domain extension or such. If you check the
option "Override WHOIS server config" then the internal domain
extension database will be ignored and the WHOIS function will use
the WHOIS server that you have set under the field "Server".
Export window
[Top]
This function lets you export the information seen in the domain
list in the Main Window. You can chose what columns to include or to
not include and what filetype to save it as. The different filetypes
supported is XML, CSV, HTML and TXT.
It won't
start, it says I'm missing some file? [Top]
If the program says that you're missing an OCX or DLL file then
download and install this file from the Microsoft website (restart
your computer after you have installed it):
Runtime library
If it still won't work then contact us
and tell us what file that you are missing.
The Automatic updater always
times out or can't connect? [Top]
Make sure that you have set your firewall to allow the Automatic
updater to access "www.domainchecker.biz" on port 80, so that the
updater may connect to that site in order to check for updates. It's
not necessary to enable the Automatic updater for the program to
work, but it really helps to keep DomainChecker up to date if you
wanna get good results.
